Advanced Biblical Preaching – Colossians

This course addresses issues of preparing text-driven sermons on a specific New Testament book. Emphasis will be given to background, text-structure, and developing text-driven sermons from the paragraph units of the book.

A study of Baptist history from its sixteenth-century roots to the present, including the Southern Baptist Convention and The Cooperative Program.

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
A study of the history of Christianity from the Reformation to the present.

Introduction to Expository Preaching

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
A study of the construction of sermons directly from a Biblical text. Basic principles of preaching will be studied and applied in a preaching experience including: the formulation of a central idea, sermon structure, support material, delivery, and application.

Theology I

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
An introduction to the foundations of Christian theology. The nature of theology, its methods, and its sources are discussed and assessed. Special attention is given to the doctrines of revelation, Scripture, and God.

Theology II

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
An introduction to the foundations of Christian theology. The nature of theology, its methods, and its sources are discussed and assessed. Special attention is given to the doctrines of the person and work of Christ and salvation. Included are the doctrines of reconciliation, redemption, the church, and eschatology.

Baptist history to the present. Development of basic doctrine and polity will be discussed, as well as historically important Baptist men and women.

Biblical Theology

An introduction to the discipline of biblical theology including theoretical foundations and practical application.

The Church

Spurgeon College at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
A survey of the development of the Baptist identity and polity, with special reference to the essence, purpose, and governance of the New Testament church. Attention is given to the history and structure of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Comparative Religions

California Baptist University
A survey of the major world religions, with special emphasis on each religion’s historical development, worldview presuppositions and doctrinal beliefs, and forms of worship and religious practice. Comparative Religions seeks not only to survey the world religions but to study and evaluate these religions from the perspective of a Christian worldview.

Introduction to Philosophy

California Baptist University
An introduction to the meaning and basic categories of philosophy such as epistemology and philosophy of religion. This is accomplished through an exploration of the primary issues and central figures within the discipline. Particular relevance is given to the development of a Christian Worldview and the role philosophy plays in life and culture.

Overview of the Bible

California Baptist University
A general survey of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian writings (New Testament) with special emphasis to the religious and national life of the Hebrew people, the life of Jesus, and the development of the early church.

Sermon Preparation

A course in homiletics introducing students to the nature, distinctions, elements, processes, and rigors of expository preaching.
