Early in my church-planting journey, a church planter from south Austin asked me a very direct question. “What is your goal?”
My answer that day has to be my answer today, or I’m sunk. The goal is to obey Christ in planting a church.
If planting a church is the goal, then I have made an idol out of something that is otherwise a very noble thing. If growing a church is the goal, then I have made an idol.
But if obedience – pure obedience – that happens to lead toward church planting is the goal, then my motives are pure.
Please pray that God in his mercy, would empower me to keep my motives pure in order to follow the vision He has for my life.
