Pastoral Searches

At this year’s Gospel Coalition National Conference, Chris Brauns (who recently penned, When the Word Leads your Pastoral Search) moderated a panel discussion including Mark Dever, Ligon Duncan, and Rick Thompson on the topic of Pastoral Searches and Transitions.

I thought the content was strong enough to post all four parts to the panel.

What do you think most pastors do wrong in regards to pastoral searches?

I think there are a lot of pastors that just get too pushy when submitting information to a church that is searching. In our fellowship, there are candidates that will show up personally on a Sunday and bring their resume, cd of preaching, family picture, and background check to present to the church board or search committee. Ok, maybe not the background check, but they do bring everything else listed.

There are a lot of churches, on the other hand, that have no clue how to search for a pastoral candidate and the process it takes to bring in a new pastor.

Disclaimer. I didn’t watch the videos above. Just commenting on my experience with the search process.
