I love this quote by Jim Cymbala.
Humility is a magnet for the Holy Spirit.
I admit it. There are times when I get caught up in what I’m doing at Crossroads, and what my impact has been, and whether or not I’m doing a good job functioning as a pastor. Obviously, that’s putting the emphasis in the wrong area.
It’s not about what I’m doing. It’s about what He’s doing. It’s not about what I’m creating, initiating, or developing. It’s all about being obedient to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, and begging Him to do amazing things in our midst. And the most interesting thing is the Holy Spirit is drawn to a people willing to give credit where it’s due.
The Bible speaks on this subject in a very interesting manner. In Matthew 23:12, Jesus said that, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
That means that every time you place the emphasis on you and what you’re doing – every time you make it about you rather than Him – you are basically shaking your fist at the sky daring God to step in and ruin your plans.
And while I can’t speak for you, that scares the pride right out of me…
