Garage Sale for Orphans

This morning a group from Crossroads met in the parking lot of Family Video and began to set up for a garage sale. Literally hundreds of items had been donated from multiple church families and had to be sorted as best we could as fast as we could. The summer heat began to melt us at a out 9 am, but we worked on, ultimately raising over $540.

But this was no ordinary garage sale. At the end of the day, when all was packed up, we didn’t split the proceeds or even put it to use in the church. No, this garage sale had a very special purpose.

Every dollar we raised will be given to Help End Local Poverty – an Austin, TX based non-profit committed to orphan relief, specifically in Zimbabwe (statistically one of the countries with the highest orphan rate due to HIV/AIDS), and Haiti (where the earthquake 6 months ago created over a million new orphans in a moment).

With that in mind, I wanted to say “Thank you,” to Crossroads and those who stepped in (either by donating or by working) and made this garage sale a success. You are the people that make pastoring this church a joy and pleasure. I’m truly grateful to you.
And to anyone in the greater Wichita area, join us tomorrow at 10:30 am at Stucky Middle School (on 45th between Hillside and Oliver) to hear HELP founder Chris Marlow teach on the subject of Gospel justice and challenge us to response.

I can’t believe what God has already done and can’t wait to see what’s over the horizon!

See you to tomorrow!
